NZCT AIMS Games 2016

The NZCT AIMS GAMES 2016 is a strategic partnership between Sport Bay of Plenty, the four Western Bay Intermediate Schools and the Tauranga City Council. The AIMS GAMES is a Tauranga City Council Flagship event. All individual and team sports are superbly organised and ran to a very high standard. We link with various local sporting clubs, Regional and National Sporting Organisations to achieve this.

The sporting championships give 11, 12 and 13 year olds an opportunity to compete as an individual or in a team against the best of their age in twenty different sports. Each of the sports offered in 2016 are hosted in superb facilities where the best for their age will have the opportunity to perform at their best. The aim of the event is to provide opportunities for the student in the middle years to compete at an elite level, be active, celebrate fair play and enjoy success and it is through events such as the NZCT AIMS GAMES that these students will be provided with challenges and the opportunity to perform to a high standard.

In thirteen years, the NZCT AIMS GAMES have gone from a small festival of sport, to what are now considered the International Championships for Intermediate and Middle schools. Hand in hand with the growth, has been the emergence of the NZCT AIMS GAMES as a pathway, to sporting achievement and success. Since our inception in 2004 we have grown from 760 competitors representing 17 schools and four sporting codes to the 2015 NZCT AIMS GAMES were embraced by 8,007 competitors representing 262 schools from throughout New Zealand.

The New Zealand Community Trust (NZCT) is the biggest funder of amateur sport in New Zealand, helping youngsters play sport and keep active is important to them. As the naming rights sponsor the NZCT has been extremely enthusiastic in their support of the NZCT AIMS GAMES for the past five years. A quote from Mr Knel, CEO NZCT “We know sport helps grow healthy communities and getting young people into sport is one of the best things we can do”.
